Hossegor Highlights - Sep '08 : Over the sand dune lies one of the world's best beachbreaks. The week before the World Championship Tour's contest saw a few of the world's best competitors getting familiarized with the punchy waves. This area, including its surrounding towns, has embraced surfing in a big way. There is a surf shop on every corner, a surf school at every beach, and even the local airport at Biarritz appears to have been built for surfers, as it is filled with surfing images, memorabilia, and even a streaming Quiksilver TV show on all the flat-screens in its terminal.

Anglet Highlights - Sep '08 : Large jetties keep these sand bars in place - ready and waiting! This very populated area has a nice boardwalk strewn with cafes, restaurants and bars. They are filled with all types of people checking out the action in the surf, as well as the action on the boardwalk - people walking their dogs, riding bikes, skating, even break-dancing (see the lifestyle gallery)! It's like Surf City, French-style.

Lifestyle Highlights : I don't think anyone works in the South of France at this time of year, so it is a very relaxed lifestyle, so to speak. Except, of course, when you get to the beach and realize that all of those people recently picked up surfing during their time off! The Basque Coast is a very beautiful place, and we also ventured to Spain one day for lunch. The architecture is fantastic - I just wish we had more time there to be able to shoot more photos!

Guthery Highlights - Sep '08 : This spot had a great vantage point from the neighborhood church's side lawn at the top of the cliff - perfect for photography when the conditions come together. The 3 breaks at the base of the cliff are all primarily big-wave reef breaks, and, unfortunately, we just didn't have enough swell to really turn them on. We did get a taste of how they break, though - really beautiful place...
