Action Sequence Highlights Galleries

Rippers : My camera only shoots about 3.5 shots per second, so there is still quite a bit of timing involved to fire the first shot at the precise moment needed to capure not only the best 1st shot, but time the rapid-fire correctly to successfully capture the best highlights of the entire maneuver. Again, this goes back to the advantage of being a good surfer (I like to think I am, anyway) and knowing not only what is going to happen, but when and where. Photographers who just sit on the beach and shoot, not really knowing what surfing is really all about, don't have that "6th" sense of knowing how the wave and the surfer will act, given the ever-changing circumstances, though some of them now have the $10,000 cameras that shoot 10 frames per second and can't miss, though some still can't pull it off, if you can believe that! Next season, however, I will climb a little higher on the camera totem pole and buy another Canon that shoots about 6 frames per second.

Wipeouts : There have been wipeouts on bigger waves, shallower water wipeouts, rockier wipeouts, and all kinds of head-first collisions, but this first wipeout sequence was one of the longest-lasting I've had the pleasure of shooting! This is Antonio on a long, drawn-out wipeout where he narrowy avoids 2 separate people! He is a local Salvadoran boat captain who always goes the extra mile for his fellow man (or woman).
